A study on the effects of 24 hours of sleep deprivation in young healthy adults revealed significant disruptions in emotional, cognitive, and physiological responses. Participants exhibited heightened negative emotions such as anxiety and depression, decreased cortisol levels, and increased inflammatory markers (IL-6 and CRP). Cognitive performance suffered, particularly in vigilance and sensorimotor speed, though executive function remained unaffected. These findings underscore the widespread impact of acute sleep loss on both mental and physical health, supporting the importance of sufficient sleep for overall well-being.
