Loop has released Dream, a pair of reusable sleep earplugs that aim to block low, irregular nighttime sounds while staying comfortable for side sleepers. In a real-world test by TechRadar, the reviewer reported finally getting a full night of sleep after weeks of nighttime disturbance, crediting the earplugs with muting tapping and other low-level noises while still allowing alarms to be heard.
Dream provides a stated 27 dB signal-to-noise reduction and uses oval ear tips that reduce pressure in the ear canal. The small external loop piece was reshaped and coated in flexible silicone to sit more comfortably when the ear is pressed against a pillow. The reviewer found the fit notably gentle compared with foam plugs, although very active sleepers might occasionally dislodge them.
This design goal aligns with public health guidance that bedrooms should be kept below about 30 dB at night to protect sleep. By lowering intrusive background sounds toward that level, Dream can help sensitive sleepers reduce awakenings caused by irregular noises.
Environmental Health Perspectives – Environmental noise and effects on sleep, an evidence update – 2022
A systematic review that updates the World Health Organization evidence base, concluding that environmental noise is linked to sleep disturbance and related health effects, strengthening the rationale for keeping nighttime noise low.
World Health Organization – Noise – 2011
WHO guidance states that indoor bedroom noise at night should be below about 30 dB to protect sleep quality, with higher levels linked to awakenings and other adverse effects.
