As an individual’s free time increases, so does that person’s sense of well-being – but only up to a point.
A study published by the American Psychological Association found that having too much free time can negatively impact well-being. While some free time is essential for relaxation and creativity, the study suggests that an excess may reduce the sense of purpose and productivity, leading to lower overall life satisfaction.
According to the study, the ideal amount of free time for optimal well-being is around two to five hours per day. Within this range, people generally experience the benefits of relaxation and creativity without the negative effects of excessive free time, such as decreased sense of purpose or lower life satisfaction.
